Institutional Accreditation
Southern Illinois University Edwardsville is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission, and through the Open Pathway.
In all previous reviews, SIUE met all of the accreditation criteria and federal compliance standards required. SIUE was a long-time participant in the Academic Quality Improvement program (AQIP). In March 2014, SIUE completed the AQIP Quality Checkup. As a result, SIUE received notice that it had provided “strong and clear evidence” regarding the Criteria for Accreditation and the associated core component. No accreditation concerns were found and the institution met the Commission’s requirements for federal compliance. SIUE underwent final review for reaffirmation during 2014-2015 and received its formal re-affirmation of accreditation in March 2015.
Along with this reaffirmation, SIUE had the opportunity to declare a new pathway for accreditation through HLC. SIUE elected to move to the Open Pathway where SIUE’s reporting and quality improvement initiatives will change. The University moved into a 10-year accreditation cycle with an Assurance Review or comprehensive evaluation in year four. The Assurance Review was successfully completed in August 2019.
As part of the Open Pathway, the University submitted its Quality Initiative proposal and had it approved by HLC in 2021. The subsequent Quality Initiative Report was submitted in May, 2024, and was approved in June 2024. The QI Summary Report describes the initiative's outcome. SIUE also underwent a comprehensive evaluation visit on March 31-April 1, 2025. Upon completion of the site visit and subsequent review by HLC, the University was found to have met all accreditation criteria and all core components, as well as satisfied all federal compliance requirements. The University will remain on the Open Pathway with re-affirmation of accreditation until 2035.
