SIUE School of Engineering Introduces Cybersecurity Engineering Degree
|
|
SIUE announced the launch of its new Bachelor of Science in cybersecurity engineering program offered jointly through the computer science and computer engineering programs in the School of Engineering. This innovative program equips students with the skills and knowledge needed to thrive in a world increasingly reliant on secure data systems.
“This new program is unique in nature in our region since it focuses on providing a holistic education on both hardware and software side of cybersecurity as well as teaching how to design security systems which are now becoming backbone of the platforms used in IT industries,” said Cem Karacal, PhD, dean of the SOE.

Cougar Baja Places Third at Winter Baja
|
|
SIUE's Cougar Baja team traveled up to Houghton, Michigan to compete at the 43rd Winter Baja hosted by Michigan Tech. The team showed off its newest car "Larry", which placed third in the endurance race, seventh in the hill climb, and sixth in the pickled egg slalom, out of 33 cars. These results are some of the best the team has recorded at any event.

Last fall, Jeff Darabi, PhD, a professor in the department of mechanical and mechatronics engineering in Southern Illinois University Edwardsville’s School of Engineering (SOE) traveled to Chennai, India to present research on microfluidic-based technologies for isolation and detection of circulating tumor cells.
The three-day Indian Conference on Micro nano fluidics (ICOM 2023) hosted by the Indian Institute of Technology Madras was held Sept. 29 through Oct. 1, 2023. This was the first international conference on microfluidics held in India, a country that reports less incidents of cancer diagnosis than the United States, but sees cases currently on the rise.

SIUE Congratulates Newest SAFB Honorary Commander Class of 2025 Dr. Chris Gordon
|
|
SIUE congratulates Chris Gordon, PhD, associate dean of the School of Engineering (SOE), on his recent induction into Scott Air Force Base (SAFB) 2025 Class of Honorary Commanders. Gordon is one of 24 St. Louis Metro Area community leaders chosen for this role by the 375th Air Mobility Wing, the host wing of SAFB. “We have an Educational Partnership Agreement with SAFB which we have used to foster collaboration with senior design teams,” said Gordon. “My objective in participating in this program is to continue to strengthen our connection with SAFB.”

The MSD Scholarship Winner at SIUE's Environmental Resources Training Center Pilot Plant

|
For nearly 50 years, SIUE’s Environmental Resources Training Center (ERTC) has been the designated learning institution for the continuing education of personnel involved in the operation, maintenance and management of drinking water and wastewater treatment systems for the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA). More recently, SIUE and the Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District (MSD) have teamed up to expand the makeup of the workforce.
One scholarship was awarded for the FY 2024 for students in ERTC’s Water Quality Control Operations Program. Scholarship recipient Elizabeth Bowyer offers insight as a student of the esteemed certificate program and grants a tour of the hands-on training she has received in the ERTC pilot plant.
