On January 23, Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker announced the release of $10,537,000 in planning funds to create preliminary designs for a Health Science Building on campus. The complex will include approximately 221,000 square feet.
“With this investment, we’re giving SIUE’s current and future students a world-class education in a world-class facility, and we’re providing employers with world-class talent from one of our state’s greatest institutions,” Pritzker said.

New Master of Arts in Teaching

A new Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) is being introduced for summer 2020 through the Department of Teaching and Learning.

Motion Capture Research Looks to Assist Children with Obesity
|
|
One year after SIUE opened the first Motion Capture and Analysis Laboratory in the Southwestern Illinois and Eastern Missouri area, the lab is now engaging in its first research study. The lab, which was funded through a grant from the National Science Foundation’s Major Research Instrumentation program, contains a comprehensive motion capture and analysis system. This system records movement from objects and people, which then is analyzed, studied or modified using computer software.
Bryan Smith, PhD, associate professor in the School of Education, Health and Human Behavior is a member of the research team that will use the motion capture systems to determine the presence of movement differences in children with obesity and identify improvement through a resistance training program.

Elementary Education Students Prepare for Impactful Careers
|
|
Working to prepare students for impactful careers that will help shape a changing world is one of the key reasons behind the partnership between the elementary education program and the Career Development Center.
“We host resume development sessions, interview preparation workshops, mock interviews with area administrators and education-based career fairs,” said Barbara Martin, EdD, assistant professor in the Department of Teaching and Learning. "Administrators from the Metro East and St. Louis area, and even nationally, attend the career fairs to meet our qualified candidates and recruit them to teach in their district."
