During the
latter part of May 1962, designs for the first group of buildings on the
Edwardsville campus received official approval. In this photograph, Gyo
Obata (standing) discusses details with President Morris. Throughout April
and May, approximately 150,000 evergreen and 30,000 hardwood seedling trees
were planted on the campus. Also in May 1962, soil drilling crews began
making test borings in several areas to determine the character of the
soil.
