OPERATION IDENTIFICATION PROGRAM

Most burglars sell what they steal, making it hard for police to trace stolen goods.  Once items are gone from your apartment, your television looks just like thousands of others.  Unless you can prove it is yours, police cannot return it.  To help protect your personal property, join the Operation Identification Program.

* Borrow an electric engraver from the Police Department, Housing Coordinator, or Resident Assistant. Engrave your driver’s license number and two-letter state abbreviation on all your valuables.   Engrave televisions, radios, stereos, typewriters, computers, golf clubs, bicycles, appliances, tools, or any portable items that might be stolen.
* When you borrow an engraver, you will receive an “Inventory Record” sheet that you can use to list the serial numbers of your property.  You should put the inventory list in a safe place.  If you are burglarized, the list can help you when you report the crime to the University Police and your insurance company.
* Once you have joined Operation Identification Program, you will receive decals for your property.  Cougar Village Apartments, Woodland Hall, and Prairie Hall rooms with full membership in this program will receive a special window decal, warning burglars that you are an Operation ID participant.  This decal will be affixed to your front door and sliding glass door by your Housing Coordinator.
