ECE 404 Electrical and Computer Engineering Design
Goals:
- To learn general design
concepts and methodologies.
- To gain experience applying
ECE knowledge learned in the general ECE courses to design problems.
- To generate and present two
written project design proposals
Instructional
Objectives:
By week 5 (week 3 in summer):
- Know how to keep a proper
engineering notebook
- Understand the design process
- Understand basic concepts
relating to design considerations for: worst case design, reliability,
safety, test, and production/manufacturing
- Be familiar with various
design methods: top-down, case-based, incremental redesign, iterative
refinement, bottom-up, hybrid design, and the "explorer" method
- Know how to present an
engineering design proposal both orally and in written format
By the project1 proposal presentation, week 9 (week 5 in summer):
- Have gained experience in
engineering design
- Understand scheduling for
engineering design
- Understand design tradeoffs
and compromises
- Know how to write an
evaluation of other's work
- Have gained experience in
presentation of an engineering design proposal both orally and in written
format
By the project2 proposal presentation, week 15 (week 8 in summer):
- Have gained more experience
in engineering design
- Have a better understanding
of scheduling for engineering design
- Have a better understanding
of design tradeoffs and compromises
- Be more experienced in
writing evaluations of other's work
- Understand the importance of lifelong
learning to engineering
- Understand the importance of
participating in professional societies
- Have gained more experience
in presentation of engineering design proposals both orally and in written
format
