The unusual
venue for the EPEC seminar of June 2, 1961 was a huge white plastic bubble
kept rigid by electric air blowers. The five-story-high dome measured 100
feet in diameter and made a bold image in downtown East St. Louis on a
warm day. The seminar featured seven noted experts in city planning, architecture,
art, and design who discussed the many challenges and opportunities in
creating an entirely new university campus.
