Multicultural Education
In the Banks book, An Introduction to Multicultural Education, there is
quite a bit of discussion on what exactly comprises multicultural
education. Basically, Banks discusses the idea that multicultural
education extends past simply including multicultural materials in the
educational environment to making it an integral part of what we as
educators do. What most of us tend to think of with multicultural
education is Content Integration, but it in reality is only one of 5
dimensions. The other dimensions that Banks discusses in some length are
Equity Pedagogy, the Knowledge Construction Process, Prejudice Reduction,
and an Empowering School Culture and Social Structure. The linked
sections discuss what each these concepts might look like in practice.
