We went to see the doctor the other day for her 9 month check-up.  Despite having an ear infection and some pretty nasty congestion, the doctor gave our little gal a clean bill of health.  It seems that the only area in which she is lacking is teeth.  Once she gets a few more, we can start feeding her more table foods and get away from those nasty jars of baby food.

The State sent their home health nurse out to the house the other day for her nine month review.  Gladys, the nurse, said that Emmy was developing right on schedule, and even ahead in a few areas.  She said that at a year, we will have the opportunity to get out of the mandatory review program.  Duane and I both decided that we would stay in it as long as we could.  We pay enough taxes for everyone else's special services; we might at well get our money's worth.  Besides, why wouldn't I want someone to check on my kid and tell me she is doing OK?

Carol at daycare said that she was really doing some stuff that was surprising, especially in the verbal skills area.  With her parents, how can she not develop verbally!!!  She says 'Dada' all the time and 'Mama' part of the time.  Oh, and, Carol said that she has pretty darn good balance for a little one.  We both think she'll be walking before we know it.

We played a good trick on her yesterday.  She loves to watch television; she will watch anything from cartoons to CNN.  She and I were playing yesterday and I accidentally blocked her view of the television.  She leaned WAAAAYYY over to one side to see the TV.  I grabbed a cloth diaper and hung it in front of her face.  She kept leaning over and when that didn't do any good, she reached up and snatched the cloth right from my hand.  She was all full of herself after that.

Overall, we couldn't ask for a better baby.  She is, most importantly, healthy.  In addition, she is good natured, relaxed and seems pretty darned smart.  For all who are wondering if there will be a sibling...I think we are going to be happy with the one we have.  Why tempt fate?
