Family and Friends

SIUE Student: English and Speech Communication (PR track)

My family and I are inseparable and we often have a gathering at least once a month. I consider my immediate family to be my mother, her four sisters, all of my cousins, my grandparents, my father, his sister, and, of course, my little brother and sister. Now, since my parents have divorced, I have an even larger number of relatives. Our family gatherings usually consist of eating until our bellies feel like they might burst and laughing as we loudly chatter about anything and everything. One of our favorite traditions is sitting in my grandpa’s Nintendo room and eating Ruffle chips and Frito mild cheddar cheese dip. If those items aren’t at a gathering, we have to make a run to the local store and purchase them.

After leaving high school, I was afraid I would lose contact with the friends I had since kindergarten. However, one of my friends created a Facebook group that has allowed us to keep in touch. This support system as been vital to my enthusiastic success at SIUE. At least one friend posts on our group page a day. Also, in school, I have become very close to my freshman roommate. Along with her, I have made several other friends whom I am excited to have life-long relationships. I am also blessed to have an amazing boyfriend who I consider my bestfriend. I have known him since I was sixteen years old and I love seeing our lives grow individually as we are together.
