.edu = educational
.org = organization non-profit
.com = company

http = hypertext transfer protocol

Http is the language that tells the web browser how to display a page. Internal links can be created within a page; or external links to another page.

Web Browser

Software that interprets html which enables searchers to view a website. Examples are Netscape and Internet Explorer.

Cookies

Cookies are small data files that are stored by a web browser that enables web sites to greet a person by name. They also connect the person to a set of stored data with the website owner. For example a company might store your address so you do not need to type it in again when you purchase from them. Or they will keep an account showing everything which you have purchased from them and the status of your orders


Advertising has become a very big business on the web. Certain ads can even be placed on chat rooms to reach a target audience.


Television and the web are integrating. Information on television shows and their actors is available on the web. Video and audio clips can be transferred to the web


Evaluation of the web site should be done by any web user.


When designing a web pages there are basic things to avoid. There are also many online resources for the design of web sites with lots of great tips and ideas.
