This edition of the ISA Newsletter is dedicated to the memory of Peter Becker, our Past President, friend, and mainstay of the ISA. The expression of sorrow and support from our membership on learning of Peter's unexpected death in December was immediate and warm. Special thanks go out to John Farley for his initial notification to our membership and to Jack Harkins, Ivan Fahs, and Dean Peterson for sending a flower arrangement to the wake in the name of "Friends in the Illinois Sociological Association." On page two you will find the obituary written by Peter's friend and longtime ISA member, Bob Walsh.
The ISA has also sent a $100 contribution to the "Peter M. Becker Fund for Urban Ministries" at Concordia University to honor his years of service to our organization. Our membership will have a chance to remember and honor Peter at a special memorial luncheon during our 1999 annual meeting (See page 3). Our condolences go out to Beth Becker, and the rest of Peter's family and friends. We will miss him sorely.
