SCHOLARSHIPS AND FINANCIAL AID Most scholarships
require you to have a certain GPA. If you don't have the GPA,
you might lose your scholarship.
GETTING INTO A MAJOR The old adage that "Cs get
degrees" isn't really accurate anymore. At SIUE, almost
every major requires a GPA that is higher than a 2.0
average. Some competitive programs, like Nursing and
Pharmacy, have average GPAs above 3.5!
GRADUATING WITH HONORS In order to graduate with
honors from SIUE, you must earn at least a 3.5 GPA. The
highest honors (summa cum laude) requires a
3.9 GPA.
POST-COLLEGE PLANS Grades can be especially
important if you're looking to going to graduate or
professional school. Just like your high school GPA and test
scores impacted your ability to go to college, your college
GPA and test scores (GRE, MCAT, PCAT, LSAT, or any variety
of tests) may impact what you choose to do after graduation.
WHY IT MATTERS
In the
long run, your college GPA may not matter much. But
while you're in college -- and for your plans
immediate after college -- they can be very important.
