Digital Library/Gazetteer This gazetteer is based on data from multiple sources and
contains approximately 4.2 million entries. Australian Geographic
Place Names This site enables an online search of the Gazetteer of
Australia. Canada's Official
Geographical Names Users can type any Canadian geographical name (town,
feature) and retrieve its latitude, its longitude, the province in which it
is located, and a map showing its location. National Topographic System (NTS)
map numbers and sheet names are also supplied. Geographic
Names Information System
The Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) contains
information about almost 2 million physical and cultural geographic features
in the United States. GNIS is a online database that allows searches for any
United States feature; there is also a searchable database for Antarctica
with the same features. "The GEOnet Names Server (GNS) provides access to the
National Imagery and Mapping Agency's (NIMA) database of foreign geographic
feature names. Approximately 20,000 of the database's 3.5 million features
are updated monthly with names information approved by the U.S. Board on
Geographic Names." Users can search for world geographical names by
specifying name and country (or coordinate bounding rectangle) and retrieve
name, feature designation, latitude and longitude, and country area

Thesaurus of Geographic Names The Getty Thesaurus of Geographic Names (TGN) contains
nearly 1 million place names. This searchable database gives for each place
name: type of place (examples: inhabited place, ridge, valley, stream),
latitude and longitude; variant names; and hierarchical position in the
thesaurus. U.S.
Gazetteer, from the U.S. Census Bureau Enter a United States zip code, city name, or county name
and the gazetteer displays the latitude and longitude and population of the
