Enrollment is limited to 10 students. To apply,
submit the SIUE Travel Study Application and
a one page essay stating:
•
Why you want to participate
•
What you hope to offer to the Ghanaians
•
What you hope to learn during your trip
Application deadline is November 1, 2011. You
will be contacted by the end of November to let
you know if you have been accepted to participate
in this program.
Passport
Students accepted will require a passport. If you
do not have one, you can apply for a passport at
the local Maryville, Edwardsville or Glen Carbon
post office. The average cost for a passport is
$130
Plane Ticket
Students participating will travel as a group from
St. Louis Lambert Airport to Accra, Ghana, where
the program director, Mrs. Faustina Blankson, will
be awaiting the students’ arrival
Health Insurance & Immunizations
All SIUE travel study program participants are
required to obtain ISIC (International Student
Identity Card). The cost is $22 and students
may apply for the card through the SIUE office
of international Programs in 0300 SSC.
The following are recommended before travel
to Africa:
Yellow fever vaccination (required)
Anti-malaria medications,
Hepatitis A vaccination
Program Costs
Program Fees: $2700 - includes round trip
airfare from St. Louis to Accra, Ghana, entry visa fee
for Ghana, residence hall housing in double rooms
at the University of Ghana, local transportation, field
trips and cultural activities.

Additional Costs to Consider
SIUE tuition assessed on the summer 2012 bursar bill
for 6 credit hours for HED 462 or 9 credit hours for
HED 499
