Introduction to PowerPoint

 

 

You can type notes for each slide in this space. However, what you type here will not appear on the slide or in the slide show. Also, the notes will not print unless you click the appropriate print option to do so.

 

Mini-slides help you determine what information is contained on each slide

 

PowerPoint provides you with a default slide ready for you to add text.

1Normal View displays the slide where you can see and work with the entire surface. It provides a space for taking notes much like note cards to accompany each slide. Also, this view provides mini-slides down the left side of the screen to help you identify which slide you are working on.

2Slide Sorter View displays each slide in order and operates much like the physical slide sorter used when placing slides into a carousel. The view provides the option of moving slides and changing their order.

3Slide Show View plays the presentation on the screen beginning with the slide highlighted in slide sorter view or the slide being viewed in normal view.


Adding Text

 

To add text to a slide:

  1. Click on the  button on the bottom toolbar – one time. The button will look like it is pressed in.
  2. Position your mouse pointer on the slide where you want the text to begin. The pointer will look like this:                                            Then click once with the left mouse button.
  3. Begin typing.

 

 


Adding a New Slide

  1. Click Insert
  2. Click New Slide

Changing the Background Color

1.      Click Format

2.      Click Background…

3.      Click the drop-down arrow

4.      Click More Colors

5.      Click the Custom tab

6.      Select the color you want

7.      Click OK

8.      Click Apply if you want the color only to apply to the current slide or Apply to All if you want the color on all the slides.

Inserting Sounds and Movies

 

Sounds and movies are inserted much like pictures are.

 

  1. Click Insert
  2. Click Movies and Sounds

 

Movie from Clip Organizer and Sound from Clip Organizer

work very similar to inserting clipart. When the window

opens on the right side of the screen click the Modify

button then refer to steps 3-7 above.

 

Movie from File… and Sound from File… work exactly like

inserting a picture from file. Refer to steps 9-11 above.

To link slides together within the same presentation:

 

  1. Follow steps 1-3 above
  2. Click Bookmark…
  3. Select the slide you wish to link to.

Using Design Templates

 


If you want your presentation to have a more decorative

background:

  1. Click Format
  2. Click Slide Design…
  3. Select the background you like from the

Available for Use category

If you want to remove the design template, select

the blank background.

 

*Note: A design template is placed on all the slides and PowerPoint

will not let a presentation contain more than one design. All slides will

contain the same template.

Using Slide Transitions

If you wish to modify the way the slides transition from one to another:

 

  1. Click Slide Show
  2. Click Slide Transition…
  3. Select the transition you want
  4. Select the speed you want the slides to transition in.
  5. Select a sound if you want one when the slides change
  6. Select the method for changing the slides
  7. Click the X to apply the transition to only one slide OR
  8. Click Apply to All Slides

 

 
 

 

 

 



Printing

  1. Click File
  2. Click Print
  3. Select the appropriate printer
  4. Select whether you want all the slides, the current slide, or a select grouping of slides.
  5. Select the number of copies you wish to print
  6. Under Print What you can elect to print 1 slide per page or multiple slides per page
  7. Choose to print in color or black/white
