Charles Nelson

Professor of Instructional Technology

Dr. Nelson is originally from the Seattle area. He completed his B.A. and M.A. degrees in the State of Washington where he taught 5th grade for ten years in a suburban district in Seattle. He got into Instructional Technology through an electronics hobby and through designing and building a student responder system for his elementary classroom. He moved to Illinois after obtaining an NDEA study fellowship at Carbondale where he finished his Ph.D. in 1970. He has conducted several small research projects centering around formative strategies in learning and has recently turned his attention to public service. He is currently on the local school board and is assisting in building the new high school in Edwardsville. He is President of the Board for the Edwardsville Public Library. He lives alone in town and has just finished completely remodeling his house--single handedly. Cabinet building is his major hobby. He also uses adaptive computer equipment in his home and office with speech synthesizers. He really appreciates the innovations of modern technology.
