TITLE/RANK: Assistant Professor

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: BIOLOGY EDUCATOR. The Department of Biological Sciences, Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level. This position will be a joint appointment with the Office of Science and Mathematics Education. We seek candidates with training in Biology Education. Responsibilities of the successful candidate will include periodic teaching of our Biology Secondary Methods course and Science Foundations courses, advising students, supervising student teachers, involvement in science outreach activities, management of the Biotechnology Education Center, and teaching of other Biology courses as assigned. Candidates must also exhibit potential for independent and innovative Science/Biology Education research involving undergraduate and masters’ students.

TERMS OF APPOINTMENT: Continuing academic year (nine month) appointment; tenure eligible.

SOURCE OF FUNDS: State

SALARY RANGE: Commensurate with credentials qualifications, and experience.

QUALIFICATIONS: A Ph.D. in Biology, or doctorate in Education (with strong emphasis in Biology) required at time of hire. Pre-college teaching experience and secondary education certification is preferred, preferably in Biology Education. A record of research in the area of Biology education is preferred.
