Notes:
1) Some coursework may be completed at a two-year school and transferred to SIUE as determined by the university and the biology department. As a general rule, microbiology and anatomy and physiology taken at a two-year school are not accepted for credit toward a biology major, although they may be accepted as hours toward graduation. If you complete an A.S./A.A. degree, you should plan to take a very rigorous course selection and load once you begin to take classes at SIUE. Questions, as usual, should be addressed to your advisor.
2) Some pre-professional students may want to consider a specialization other than medical science that may better meet their needs. Pre-PT, pre-OT and pre-PA students especially might be interested in the integrative biology specialization. (BIOI).

Chemistry Minors

As a biology/medical science major, you will have sufficient hours of chemistry to qualify for a chemistry minor if you take biochemistry through the chemistry department and if you declare the minor. Chemistry 451a and b count as one 400-level course and 6 hours of credit toward a biology major.

Note that the biochemistry that you apply to a chemistry minor must be taken through the chemistry department.
