A street scene in the Central West End, St. Louis, MO

Brad DeRousse

Me in SIUE hoodie in Spring I am a graduate student in the SIUE Geography Department. SIUE is a fantastic college campus located on the edge of Edwardsville, IL, a progressive, quaint town that is the county seat of Madison County, Illinois.

Urban Studies and Physical Geography are my passions in the field of Geography. Being a man of many interests, Geography, which is an all-encompassing study that seeks to understand the natural, physical aspects of Earth as well as human interactions with each other and the natural environment, seems to be a natural fit for me.

Cities fascinate me. Large cities in particular are incredibly interesting to me. Areas of high densities of people, high-rises intermixed with medium-sized and low-rise buildings help to create lively and interesting communities. Different building styles and architectures, old buildings mixed with new buildings, can be particularly eye catching. Successful, lively cities seem to blend them all helping to create lively cityscapes that facilitate the dance that Jane Jacobs refers to as "eyes on the street", the event where eyes are taken off of the TV in the living room and are instead focused on interacting with their neighbors and their inherent neighborhood environment. The pages in my website are meant to inform you of who I am, what makes me tick, what excites and interests me. I hope you enjoy and interact with the pages that lie herein!
