GI Bill® Chapter 31 (Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment [VR&E])
Program Information
The VR&E program assists Veterans with service-connected disabilities and an employment handicap, and Servicemembers who are in the process of transitioning from military to civilian employment prepare for and find jobs and careers. For those with service-connected disabilities that prevent immediate consideration of work, the program seeks to improve the ability to live as independently as possible.

Timeline of Benefit Use
Veterans may utilize this program for the amount of time it takes to complete the training necessary to complete their living goals.
Application Process
- A comprehensive evaluation is completed with a VRC (Veteran Recovery Center).
- To find a VRC location near you, visit https://www.va.gov/directory/guide/vetcenter.asp.
- Complete the VA’s online application.
Campus Requirements/Steps
- Submit class information to Vocational Rehab Counselor.
- Counselor will submit information to SIUE.
- Financial Aid will enter eligible amount as payment on student account.
- NOTE: Student does not need to complete the GI BIll Certification Request form.
