A Journal for Scholars and Critics of Language and Literature
Dear Readers and Contributors,
Papers on Language and Literature is committed to publishing rigorous scholarship. PLL has always sought to break through boundaries and barriers. Since its inception, it has been a truly—and uniquely—generalist publication that has transcended the notion of a national literature. In keeping with new scholarly and pedagogical developments, PLL is looking at once to broaden and to loosen up the definition of language and to include in it the languages of film, print culture, translation, and digital humanities. We welcome special-issue proposals and standalone contributions on these and related subjects.
We look forward to hearing and reading about your exciting new ideas.
Warm regards,
Helena Gurfinkel, Editor
Special-Issue Proposal Guidelines
Papers on Language and Literature is seeking proposals for special issues on subjects including but not limited to
- Digital Humanities
- Film

PLL is a generalist publication that is committed to publishing work on a variety of literatures, languages, and chronological periods. We accept proposals year-round. We are a quarterly and expect to publish a special issue once a year, every year. The specific volume and issue will be determined later, depending on the editors’ schedule.
Prospective guest-editors should submit current CVs and researched proposals of approximately 500 words describing the argument and rationale behind the special issue. If the guest-editor(s) decide to solicit contributions prior to the submission of the proposal, abstracts of articles and biographies of authors should be included with the proposal.
Proposals and supporting materials should be sent to the Editor at pll@siue.edu as Word or PDF attachments. The subject line of the email should read “Special Issue Proposal.”
Guest editors of accepted proposals, please see further guidelines.
We look forward to hearing from you.
