International Students
Before applying, please consider the following requirements to participate in online instruction abroad.
Citizenship
To ensure compliance with federal and international law and extend certain consumer protections to the student, we are required to identify what country a student will be physically located in while connecting with SIUE online. This may require the collection of additional information from the applicant and cause a delay in the application process.
English Proficiency
If your first language is not English, you must demonstrate adequate English language proficiency prior to admission.
Course Instruction
Online coursework at SIUE is generally made available to students in two modes:
- Synchronous, which requires attendance and participation at a regularly scheduled time by the faculty providing course instruction. This would require you to participate in coursework in Central Standard Time (CST).
- Asynchronous, which means faculty members provide course content that can be accessed at any time and you would follow their calendar guidelines for instruction or assignment due dates.
Technology
- Internet access through an ISP with 56kbps speed or higher
- Ability to access Blackboard
- ITS Recommended Computer Specifications
- Pentium M, 3rd Generation or better Intel i-series, or AMD A8 or higher processor
- 8 GB RAM
- SSD or standard; at least 250 GB hard drive, with minimum 30 GB free
- Dual band or higher wireless N card if applicable
- Windows OS 10 or higher; Mac OS 10.8 or higher
