Greetings from the School of Engineering. For those who do not have the pleasure of interacting with our students on a regular basis, let me tell you about some of the things they are up to.
- Tongmyung University (TU) in Busan, South Korea, invited six mechanical engineering students and two faculty members to a Summer Capstone Design Camp to collaborate on projects, attend lectures at TU, and tour the campus and local industry. I am pleased that our students’ reputations led TU to offer this life experience that will further enhance their education.
- In April, members from our Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) student chapter traveled to New Orleans to take part in the Annual IEEE Region 5 conference competitions. I am proud to report that the team took 3rd place in the ethics competition and 6th place in the “fast rat” division of the robotics contest.
- The School of Engineering Solar Car Team has been working diligently all year to prepare for the annual Formula Sun Grand Prix in Austin, Texas. Students will leave on July 25 to compete with teams from around the world and test the limits of their car in handling curves, braking and accelerating.
In May, we said goodbye to our graduates and wished them well in their future endeavors. As always, we remain focused on educating our next generation of engineers and look forward to seeing their contributions to our community.
I hope you have a safe and fun summer.
