Sherrie Senkfor to Speak at University Staff Senate Executive Meeting, Today
The University Staff Senate's meetings are open to constituency members. Non-senate members can come and listen. Participation depends on the agenda being discussed and/or prior approval from the president of the University Staff Senate.

Staff Senate meetings are held on the first Thursday of every month, with the exception of July during which there is no full Senate meeting.

Earth Week Activities Continue |
|
|
SIUE is joining the worldwide observance of Earth Week with informational, enlightening and fun activities leading up to Earth Day on Sunday, April 22.
- Today – A day in The Gardens at SIUE will allow participants to plant native prairie grass seeds and Bur Oak tree seedlings from 10-11:30 a.m., and 12:30-2 p.m.
- Friday, April 20 – Eleanor Schumacher, a resource conservationist with the Madison County Soil and Water Conservation District, will lead a program at The Gardens from 12-5 p.m. She will lead a series of discussions and activity on spring flower identification, hold a seed collection competition, discuss pesticide training and certification process, among other things. The fee is $5.
- Saturday, April 21 – E-Waste Collection Drive from 9 a.m.-noon in the visitor’s lot near the Center for Spirituality and Sustainability.

Don't Miss Last Days to Visit Birdman Rising Exhibit at Edwardsville Art Center |

The University Museum presents the last week to view the exhibit, "Birdman Rising" at the Edwardsville Arts Center, on the campus of Edwardsville High School, 6165 Center Grove Rd.
This fascinating exhibit is curated by the SIUE University Museum, featuring Amerindian artifacts from the SIUE University Museum and photographic artworks by guest artist Jeff Thomas. Curated by Cory Willmott, PhD, associate professor in the Department of Anthropology.
The gallery is open the following hours:

Green Dot is a comprehensive violence prevention program with objectives to decrease the likelihood of dating and domestic violence, stalking and sexual assault.
The education sessions’ intent is to train faculty and staff to endorse, model, and support two Green Dot values:
- Power-based personal violence is not tolerated in our campus community
- Everyone will do their part to prevent violence

Radson is a professor at Bradley University. He served as dean of the Foster School of Business at Bradley University from 2012-2018. Prior to his term at Bradley, Radson served as dean and professor of the School of Business and Economics at Michigan Technological University from 2008-2012.

The Undergraduate Scholars Showcase highlights the depth and variety of learning experiences offered by SIUE’s Senior Assignment and Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities (URCA) programs.
Each academic unit demonstrates the best of what the University's undergraduates have mastered. Each department and program nominates two outstanding Senior Assignment projects to be presented at the Undergraduate Scholars Showcase. In keeping with the spirit of last year’s event, URCA associates and assistants will also be displaying their presentations.
Each participant will receive a certificate of achievement. This growing event allows students, faculty and community members an opportunity to celebrate learning and our students’ accomplishments.

The Illinois Metro East Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at SIUE will host a “Starting a Small Business” seminar:

Attendees will learn how to develop a viable business plan, properly register a business with state and/or local agencies, and explore financing options. The event is highly recommended for anyone developing a new, for-profit business concept.
In addition, attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions about specific business ideas and the steps in a startup process.
The public is invited to attend, and admission is $10.

Volunteers Needed for Spring Commencement |
|
|
To make our Spring 2018 ceremonies a success, volunteer greeters are needed particularly for Saturday ceremonies.
Please consider taking time to volunteer at this momentous occasion.
Greeters will welcome guests and graduates to the ceremony, hand out programs and answer general questions. Greeters will need to arrive 90 minutes before their assigned ceremony and stay for the duration of the event.
There are seven spring ceremonies scheduled for Friday and Saturday, May 4-5. A complete list of ceremony times and corresponding graduates is available at siue.edu/commencement/schedule.
Please contact me if you are interested in helping make this event memorable for all of our graduates and guests. If you would like to volunteer with a friend, please let me know, and I will make sure that you are stationed together.
