SIUE Appoints Jackson as LIS Interim Dean

SIUE Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Denise Cobb, PhD, has appointed Lydia Jackson as the interim dean of Library and Information Services (LIS), effective immediately. Jackson steps into the role for former Dean Regina McBride, who retired in early October.

An associate professor and director of research commons, Jackson has served Lovejoy Library in a variety of roles. She began her professional affiliation with SIUE in 1983 as a library technical assistant III, and provided reference services, conducted library instruction sessions, managed computing problems, and assisted in the development, planning, implementation, promotion, and assessment of instructional programs.

In 1998, Jackson was named assistant instruction and reference librarian. As a tenure-track and tenured library faculty member, she has served in leadership roles such as instruction librarian, director of instruction and outreach, and director of the research commons.

Jackson was recognized as an assessment scholar in 2007-2008 and as one of 50 teacher-scholars at SIUE in 2008. She has been actively involved in the reform and implementation of SIUE’s general education program since 2005. She has been a participant in the nationally recognized Association of College and Research Libraries “Immersion Program.” Throughout her career, she has continually been engaged in leadership roles in library associations at the local, regional, state and national level. She continues to be an active contributor to grant production and is currently participating in a Library of Congress grant.

Jackson earned a bachelor’s in government and sociology from SIUE in 1983. She also holds master’s degrees in both instructional technology and library science.

Thanksgiving Food Drive for SIUE Students, Donate by Nov. 10

SIUE prides itself on giving, but how does it feel to know that some of our own students are struggling with food insecurity?

You have the opportunity to help our students.

The Sociology Club and Student Organization for Sustainability are working on SIUE's first Thanksgiving drive for students, which will result in a campus pantry for students in need.

As the holidays are quickly approaching and classes ending, hunger does not take a vacation for many SIUE students and their families.

The Thanksgiving Food Drive is seeking to provide those in need with a bag of groceries to help make a Thanksgiving meal.

Please consider donating one or more of the below food items:

Instant mashed potatoes
Rice
Canned green beans
Canned corn
Canned spinach
Canned greens
Cranberry sauce
Gravy (packet or jar)
Stuffing boxes
Canned meats
Monetary donation for fresh produce

Donation sites are located in the Morris University Center, Peck Hall, Founders Hall and Alumni Hall. No time to drop off? Please contact Jalela Mitchell at jalmitc@siue.edu to schedule a pick up, or Dr. Connie Frey Spurlock in Peck Hall, room 1213 or at cfrey@siue.edu

All food donations are needed by Friday, Nov. 10.
