Help Welcome New International Students to Campus

Please welcome more than 100 new international students to SIUE, many of whom arrived over the past weekend!

Students come to SIUE from Spain, China, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, El Salvador, Rwanda and Nigeria, to name a few countries.

This group includes four new Fulbright students, 16 exchange students and one Fulbright Teaching Assistant, who will teach Yoruba.

In addition to students, SIUE welcomes 20 visiting scholars, from China, Italy, Brazil and S. Korea. Ten of the Scholars from China will participate in the International Training Program on Pedagogy during fall semester.

Over the next few days, students and scholars will be involved in orientation activities. If you see international students or scholars on campus who need assistance, your help is very much appreciated!

Feel free to direct any student or scholar needing help to the Office of International Affairs located in the Student Success Center, room 0300, or available by phone at 650-3785.

The MESC is organized by the Illinois Metro East Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at SIUE. The purpose of the Challenge is to identify, encourage and support entrepreneurs and business startups across the SBDC’s service area, including Calhoun, Jersey, Madison, Bond, Clinton, St. Clair, Washington, Monroe and Randolph Counties.

The first-place winner will receive a $7,000 cash prize. Second and third place winners will receive $5,000 and $3,000, respectively. Prizewinners will also receive an array of in-kind professional services.

SIUE’s School of Business, the SBDC’s host organization, will assist with facilitating the competition.

For a startup business enterprise to be eligible, it must have been established after April 30, 2014, and be headquartered in the SBDC’s nine-county service area. For pre-venture entrepreneurs, proposed new business operations will need to be located within the same nine counties.
