Assistant Professors Present their Study of International Student Population, Today

Please join Assistant Professors Melissa Burel, Lora Smallman and Marlee Graser to learn about their recent study on SIUE international students:

In response to a growing international student population on campus, Burel and Sarah Park were awarded a CARLI grant to study the experiences of international students both on campus and in the library.

The study was conducted over the 2015-16 academic year utilizing a mixed-methods approach including a survey, interviews and photo diaries. Smallman, Graser and Lynn Fields joined the team in the summer of 2016 to analyze and interpret the data.

Burel, Smallman and Graser will travel to Atlanta in November to present on this project at the Southeastern Library Assessment Conference.

NAMI Professional Development Seminar "Discussion on Minority Mental Health," July 19

The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) will host an open forum and professional development seminar, entitled "Discussion on Minority Mental Health."

Attendees will learn facts about mental health in minorities, how to identify warning signs, and how to support and communicate with someone in distress, while referring them for additional assistance.

SIUE Alumna Megan Banks Recognized Among STL BizJournal’s 30 Under 30

The St. Louis Business Journal has recognized Southern Illinois University Edwardsville alumna Megan Banks as among the region’s next generation of high-level decision makers with a spot in its competitive 30 Under 30 Class of 2017. The acknowledgement also applauds her continuous commitment to the betterment of society.

Banks is an assistant project manager at S. M. Wilson & Co., a St. Louis-based commercial construction firm. A native of Florissant, Mo., she achieved a bachelor’s in construction management from the SIUE School of Engineering (SOE) in 2013.
