Edwardsville Glen Carbon Community Pool Now Open

The Edwardsville Glen Carbon Community Pool at SIUE’s Cougar Lake has opened after a month of piping issues delayed the pool’s season.

The pool was scheduled to open Memorial Day, but a leak developed in the water filtration system. The City of Edwardsville repaired the system and the pool officially opened Monday, June 26.

SIUE leased the pool to the City of Edwardsville, which has operated it as a municipal pool in cooperation with Glen Carbon since Spring 2016. The pool includes a slide and “splash pad” area for younger children.

Family memberships (four persons) start at $320, single memberships are $175, senior citizen memberships are $150 and daily passes are also available for $5 per day or $4 per day for seniors and children 4-15. Kids three-and-under swim free. Private rentals are also available for birthday parties, reunions and more.

For more information on hours, memberships and party rentals, contact the Edwardsville Parks Department at 692-7538 or visit cityofedwardsville.com.

The Land of Goshen Community Farmer’s Market is held in downtown Edwardsville Saturday mornings through October 21. At the market, businesses and farmers gather in tents—rain or shine—to sell their locally made products.

This year, the City of Edwardsville has again graciously offered the University booth space. Each week, a different department will host the SIUE tent to provide information on events, issues or offerings.

Career Development Center Collecting Professional Attire Donations

Each year we have students that are in need of professional attire for interviews, career fairs, networking events and practicum/co-op/internship experiences.

Unfortunately, not all students have the resources to obtain the appropriate attire for these occasions. This can decrease students’ opportunities and self-esteem.

You can help! Ready to do a little cleaning in your closet?

The Career Development Center is planning to take donations of professional attire items through August 4 in preparation for our fall 2017 recruiting season.

We will host our second Cougar Career Closet event on Tuesday, Sept. 12 to provide students with lightly worn professional attire.

We will accept both men’s and women’s attire. All items need to be in good condition and already clean and ready to be given to students. We are hoping to get a variety of sizes and options in order to make this service available to any student in need.

Items can include:
• Suits
• Dresses
• Skirts
• Dress Pants/Khakis
• Sweater sets
• Polos
• Blouses
• Belts
• Ties
• Anything that could be worn for a professional event with employers
• Anything that would be appropriate as a starting point for a professional wardrobe

Items can be dropped off at the SIUE Career Development Center, located in the basement of the Student Success Center, room 0281. Bring items during regular business hours, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday.

For more information, call the Career Development Center at (618) 650-3708 or email Carrie Smolar, csmolar@siue.edu or Megan Gilbert, megilbe@siue.edu.
