Join the International Hospitality Program Today

Dear SIUE Faculty and Staff,

We invite you to join the International Hospitality Program (IHP) at SIUE.

Since 1969, IHP has reached out to the international students attending SIUE to provide friendship, guidance and a welcoming heart.

The changes facing these young men and women, as our country deals with immigration policy, are difficult. Among other things, they are feeling confused, scared and angry.

If you are interested in joining, we welcome you. The international students at SIUE need all of us to show them that they are welcome and valued. IHP is a great start in that direction.

For more information, e-mail or call Rick Biethman, IHP president, at rickbiethman@mac.com or 618-954-6116.

10:30 a.m.

The innovative digital archive is transforming the historical experience, using 21st century technology to display 20th century history, and inviting the public to be content creators.

Madison County Regional Superintendent of Schools Robert Daiber, EdD, is leading the project. It is being developed and managed by SIUE College of Arts and Sciences’ Department of Historical Studies associate professors Jeffrey Manuel, PhD, and Jason Stacy, PhD, Stephen Hansen, PhD, faculty emeritus and former interim chancellor, along with undergraduate and graduate students.

Madison Historical offers the first formally recorded history of the county since 1912. During the launch event, organizers will demonstrate its interactive nature and expand on the opportunities it presents for professional development. Attendees will have hands-on opportunities to explore the site.

Project goals include digitally highlighting the physical collections to foster public interest in visiting local museums and historical societies. It will also serve as a valuable resource for local teachers and students, who can incorporate local history into their teaching and learning by using materials from the website.

The Cougar World Games will challenge, inspire and bring together diverse student groups and organizations to SIUE students, faculty and staff.

Currently, there are commitments from such individuals from India, Serbia, Greece and Nigeria, to name a few.

Campus Recreation is looking for volunteers to engage with students in the “cultural interaction zone.” If you would like to volunteer or know students, faculty, staff or organizations that would like to, please contact Natalie Hawkins, assistant director of Campus Recreation at nrosale@siue.edu or call 618-650-3242.

The Cougar World Games is a special event designed to promote diversity, understanding and acceptance between groups with different cultures, backgrounds and ethnicities through participation in various recreational activities offered across the globe. The basic concept allows students to visit various stations depicted as continents, while learning about culture, sports, music, ethnic foods and more.
