Beginning Today Black Theater Workshop Presents "Exhibit A: A Journey of August Wilson's Plays"

The Black Theater Workshop (BTW) will perform "Exhibit A: A Journey of August Wilson’s Plays," directed by BTW Artistic Director and Professor Kathryn Bentley.

Free admission to all, but arrive early due to limited seating. Seating is general admission.

Join us for staged readings of scenes and monologues from the 10 plays in August Wilson’s The Pittsburgh Cycle – a series of ten plays that chronicle the African American experience throughout the 20th century. Each play is set in a different decade. All of the plays, except for one, take place in the Hill District of Pittsburgh.

The BTW cast includes: Jealyn Bouie, Dominick Garrison, Quincy Gordon, Mitanesha Moffett, Timothy Tan, Justin Truman, Michael Watkins and Kiara Ulmer with student director, Kenneth Coleman and dramaturge, Sherisse Cummings.

August Wilson was an American playwright whose work included a series of ten plays, The Pittsburgh Cycle, for which he received two Pulitzer Prizes for Drama. Wilson won a Pulitzer Prize and a Tony Award for his play, "Fences," and earned a second Pulitzer Prize for "The Piano Lesson."

Help Raise Money for Breast Cancer Research at SIUE's Annual Pink Zone Games

Saturday, Feb. 4, SIUE Women’s Basketball will host the annual Pink Zone games to raise money and promote breast cancer research and awareness!

The women’s game begins at noon, with the men’s game following at 4 p.m. All proceeds from Pink Zone events benefit Susan G. Komen Missouri.

• In 2016, more than 240,000 cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed in women and 2,600 in men in the U.S.

• Every two minutes, one case of breast cancer is diagnosed in a woman in the U.S.

• In 1980, the five-year relative survival rate for women diagnosed with early stage breast cancer
(cancer confined to the breast) was about 74 percent. Today, that number is 99 percent.

• Early detection and effective treatment contributed to a 36 percent decline in breast cancer mortality (deaths) in the U.S. between 1989-2012.

• Currently, there are more than 3 million breast cancer survivors in the U.S.

• One in eight women in the U.S. will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime.

SIUE East St. Louis Center Reopens Library as Learning Resource Center

The SIUE East St. Louis Center (ESLC) has reopened the library on campus and expects it to soon become a critical resource and gathering place for the public.

The SIUE East St. Louis Learning Resource Center will hold weeklong events during its grand opening from Monday, Feb. 6-Friday, Feb. 10 at the East St. Louis Higher Education Campus, Building B, 601 James R. Thompson Blvd., East St. Louis.

Currently, hours are from 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday.

Noon-1:15 p.m. – Viewing of Project 231 documentary

New Cooperative PhD in Environmental Resources

SIUE has introduced a cooperative PhD in environmental resources and policy (ER&P) with the Carbondale campus that will be available for the fall 2017 semester.

The central focus of the ER&P program is advanced interdisciplinary training and research on physical, biological, and social processes responsible for natural resource and environmental problems facing contemporary society.

Discounted Membership for New Fitness Room Fee for Faculty and Staff

Campus Recreation is now offering a special membership yearly rate of $60 for SIUE faculty and staff to access the new fitness room located in the Student Success Center, Room 0206.

This reduced rate allows for access only to this new satellite workout space.

Faculty and staff who wish to or are currently taking advantage of our full Student Fitness Center membership can gain access to this space at no additional charge.

Hours of the Fitness Room will follow the hours of Morris University Center.

Saturday Studio Art Workshop are set for:

Studio instruction is once again being offered for grades K-12 students.

All classes are designed to stimulate creative growth. Emphasis is placed on developing skills in a variety of media and in generating ideas for creative expression.

Art teachers in Saturday Studio classes are becoming certified art specialists and are art majors in the Department of Art and Design.

All sessions will be held in the Art and Design West building on SIUE’s campus.

Housed in the Department of Educational Leadership within the School of Education, Health and Human Behavior, the College Student Personnel Administration (CSPA) program provides an educational opportunity for student affairs employees or anyone interested in pursuing a career in higher education or student affairs.

The program will prepare graduates to assume entry- to mid-level student affairs or higher education administration positions in two-year or four-year public and private institutions. Occupations in this category include directors and other positions in multiple areas in colleges and universities, such as financial aid, advising, service learning, Greek life, residential life and international programs.

Diversity Strategic Plan Draft Now Available on Blackboard

Please log into Blackboard and review the Diversity Strategic Plan Draft, which consists of Goals and Objectives proposed by the University Diversity Council, and also contains comments and ideas from the Summit.

Also included is a draft timeline for the movement of the Plan.
