This is my last newsletter message to you as the Dean of the School of Engineering as I am retiring at the end of the year after 33 years of service to SIU. I would like to convey my heartfelt thanks to all of you who contributed to the success of the School during my tenure as Dean for the last 10 years of my career.
We have worked collectively and industriously to elevate our School to the level it deserves to be. We became students’ first choice of engineering schools in the region. Enrollment increased 60 percent. The average math ACT score of the freshman class reached 29. We hired outstanding faculty members, pioneered many innovative academic programs, built a new annex, and most importantly – our graduates became highly sought-after individuals by industry.
The growth continues. We are currently working on a Student Design Center. Our bachelor's of mechatronics and robotics program will begin fall 2016. We are developing a master's program in biomedical engineering, and much more!
Associate Dean Cem Karacal will now carry the flag as the Interim Dean of the School and will continue to work diligently and collaboratively with our dedicated faculty and staff to ensure the success of our ongoing projects. I have no doubt the School will continue to excel and shine.
I wish you and your families happy and safe holidays.
So long,
Hasan Sevim
Dean
