Dear Alumni and Friends of the SIUE Department of Accounting,
The 2018-2019 school year has been eventful for the accounting department. We moved to our temporary offices in the Vadalabene Center in August 2018. After some adjustments, the offices have turned out to be pretty good (or at least, not as bad as we feared). We were recently notified that we will be moving back into our regular offices this summer. That means we will only be in the temporary offices for one year, not the two years we had been told.
While it is always a good time to be an accounting major, the past year has been an especially good year for our graduates. The job market is strong and job placement has been very good, with many of our graduates having multiple job offers. On a related note, the Beta Alpha Psi Meet the Firms event in October was well attended with many employers coming to meet with students. We appreciate our alumni who help us with recruiting and placement of our graduates.
Professor Linda Lovata will retire at the end of May after 30 years of service at SIUE. Linda has been a great contributor to the accounting department over the many years she has been here, and she will be hard to replace.
With Linda retiring, it leaves me as the faculty member with the longest tenure in the department. Where did the time go? I liked it better when I could make fun of the old-timers like Tom King, Alan Ortegren, Bud Hirsch, Mike Costigan, and the late Marsha Puro who were here when I was hired. I have had to give up many of my time-tested jokes that I used in classes where I made fun of the older faculty.
