Instructional Technology Student Awarded Competitive Scholarship from University Center of Lake County
Frederick Berrens, a Wadsworth, IL student in Southern Illinois University Edwardsville’s Instructional Technology (IT) Program with Specialization in Educational Technologies (ET) has been recently awarded a competitive scholarship from the University Center of Lake County (UCLC) in Grayslake, IL. SIUE partners with UCLC to offer several graduate and undergraduate programs to students in the Lake County, Ill. area.
Berrens is currently employed as a special services aid at Vernon Hills High School and is an AMC Theater Manager at the Northbrook Court Mall. Berrens is pursuing his graduate degree in instructional technology at SIUE through the partnership with UCLC with plans to become a high school technology teacher.
Berrens said of the SIUE IT program, “The program is the right fit for me. With this training I will be able to take my passion for technology and become a teacher for the next generation of students!"
UCLC offers students from their programs who live or work in Lake County the opportunity to apply for a handful of graduate and undergraduate scholarships. Applicants submit an essay that describes their future goals, leadership, and what it means to them to be a UCLC student. Berrens was selected as one of nine recipients of these competitive scholarships.
