Internship Coordinator Dedicated to Student Success
Southern Illinois University Edwardsville School of Business Internship Coordinator Amanda Russell dedicates her time to connecting organizations and employers with students aiming to begin their professional careers. Additionally, she spends her time assisting School of Business student organizations with their academic and professional endeavors. One organization that Amanda has gone above and beyond for is the SIUE Beta Alpha Psi chapter.
“The impact of Amanda’s assistance to students and campus organizations is immeasurable,” said Hannah Sheahan, senior accounting major and president of Beta Alpha Psi. “Students know that her door is always open. Amanda is there for every part of the college career process, and because of that, she is your biggest helper and cheerleader as you find and acquire your first professional positions. We would not be able to do all we do without her support and guidance.”
In September of 2022, Amanda utilized her extensive industry contacts to help attract a record number of firms and companies to participate in the Meet the Firms event hosted by Beta Alpha Psi. A total of 35 firms were in attendance, along with over 75 students who participated in the event. She also assisted Beta Alpha Psi with their inaugural networking night in March 2023.
“I really cannot overstate how much Amanda contributes to the success of Beta Alpha Psi’s events,” expressed Beta Alpha Psi Faculty Advisor Marc Ortegren, PhD. “Beyond her significant contribution in her role as the Internship Coordinator, we rely on her extensive contacts in the St. Louis business community to help us attract top tier companies and firms to our events so that we can provide as much value as possible to Beta Alpha Psi members, and non-members alike. “
“Amanda plays a pivotal role in the success of the School of Business here at SIUE, and we are quite lucky to have her,” Ortegren added.
Russell began her career at SIUE as an academic advisor in the School of Business. This role allowed her to work one-on-one with students to identify their academic and professional goals while developing plans for graduation and beyond. Russell received both a bachelor’s degree in business administration with an emphasis in human resource management, and a master’s in counseling from Southeast Missouri State University.
