PharmD/MPA Concurrent Degree Now Offered at SIUE
The School of Pharmacy and the College of Arts and Sciences at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville have announced a concurrent Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) and Master of Public Administration (MPA) program, providing students an avenue for increased opportunities in the fields of pharmaceuticals and healthcare policies and systems.
PharmD students who are admitted to the MPA program will use selected pharmacy courses to meet requirements within the MPA curriculum and use selected MPA courses to meet some requirements for the PharmD program.
"This partnership affords pharmacy students the opportunity to further professional skill sets applicable to public policy development, organizational dynamics, nonprofit administration, as well as provides individualized exposure to local, state, and federal aspects of health policy,” said Nancy Huyck, DPA, associate professor and chair of the Department of Public Administration and Policy Analysis. “This concurrent program will provide students with useful tools to serve a diverse community of public interests. Employed as pharmacists, government administrators or health policy advocates, each graduate will be prepared to explore broad aspects of both pharmacy and public administration in both clinical and applied practitioner settings."
“The opportunity for our PharmD students to earn an MPA degree is ideal for those who are interested in the development and analysis of healthcare policy issues and administration of healthcare organizations and systems,” added Jingyang Fan, PharmD, BCPS, assistant dean of academic affairs and clinical professor within the School of Pharmacy. “With the additional knowledge and skill sets obtained from the MPA program, our PharmD/MPA graduates will have the competitive advantage for leadership roles in the private, public, and nonprofit sectors.”
The concurrent degree program will begin in 2024. For more information about the program visit siue.edu/academics/graduate/degrees-and-programs/pharmd-public-administration/index.shtml.
