Arts and Crafts Fair Kicks Off SIUE Family Weekend
A multitude of local artists and creative entrepreneurs filled the Morris University Center at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville to kick off the University’s annual Family Weekend.
“As an SIUE alumna, I like to come back and interact with the students,” said Charlene McDaniel, creator and owner of Lit Life Creations, who was among the many merchants in attendance at the Arts and Crafts Fair held Friday, Oct 14 in the Goshen Lounge. “The fair is a great way for students to meet a variety of businesses that are located in the St. Louis area.”
The 51st annual Arts and Crafts Fair is an SIUE tradition that features handmade and original works by local artists and vendors. Sale items included everything from diffuser scents and succulents, to jewelry, holiday décor and more.
“This work is a creative release,” shared Whitney Harvey, owner of Clay Bay Bay. “It started as a hobby, but sharing my earrings with other people makes me happy.”
Sophomore nursing major, Jenna Lercher, of Freeburg, made sure to stop by the Arts and Crafts fair as she prepared to welcome her loved ones for Family Weekend.
“It is fun having people come into the school and sell their pieces,” Lercher said. “Later this weekend, we are going to also take part in the carnival, trivia and bowling as well.”
