SIUE STEM Resource Center Provides Convenient Access to Materials and Experts Supporting STEM Education
Southern Illinois University Edwardsville’s Center for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Research, Education and Outreach offers a variety of services through its STEM Resource Center.
“This space is open to those who would like resources to help support and further STEM education,” said Candi Johnson, manager and program coordinator of the STEM Resource Center. “We provide physical resources as well as opportunities to communicate with our expert staff and community of learners and educators.”
The center has an extensive library of STEM equipment including robots, skeletons, chemicals, molecule models, STEM curriculum and more. Anyone can reach out and request the use of the available rental equipment at siuestemcenter.myturn.com. Plus, these resources are free to use.
“We are here so our SIUE community and surrounding teachers, homeschoolers and other community members do not have to spend their own money or use their own space to store and gather resources to support STEM education,” Johnson added. “We want STEM education to be accessible and inclusive to everyone. Thanks to the funders of grant projects and people who have made donations, our inventory continues to increase, making each visit to our center unique with regard to the resources we offer.”
For the SIUE community, the STEM Resource Center, located on the first floor of Science East, is a place that can not only be used for its resources, but also as a safe area to host meetings or to study.
“The STEM Center is a great place for students,” said graduate student Amanda Morgan, of Roxana. “There is nothing quite like it on campus. It is a quiet place to study with so many available resources, comfy chairs, desks and charging stations.”
“We hope this space is not only beneficial to our students, faculty and staff here at SIUE, but also is a safe space for anyone in the community to visit, utilize our resources, and explore the field of STEM,” Johnson added.
