SIUE Hosts Internationally Renowned Professor Robert G. Picard for “A Deeper Look into the World of Big Tech”
Southern Illinois University Edwardsville’s School of Business will host the International Telecommunications Society webinar with TELUS communications featuring Robert G. Picard, a renowned scholar regarded as the “Father of Media Economics,” at 9 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 15.
Picard will present on the realities of the world of “Big Tech,” the reasons behind the increasing antitrust activity and the geographic variations of competition law.
“Technology companies have become central to all aspects of the economy, and their size and influence has raised antitrust concerns around the world,” said Stanford Levin, emeritus professor of economics in the SIUE School of Business. “Professor Robert Picard is known as an international expert on digital tech antitrust, and we are fortunate to have him for this webinar.”
Picard is a specialist on media and communications economics along with policy and the business challenges facing media in the digital age. He is currently a professor emeritus and a senior research fellow for the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism at the University of Oxford. He is also the founder and former chair of the World Media Economics and Management Conference, which is a global symposium of scholars and professionals that have been meeting for over 20 years.
Picard has authored and edited more than 32 books over the intersections of media enterprises, economics, and policy, and co-developed an economic assessment methodology currently used by World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).
