SIUE Police Release Fourth of July Enforcement Numbers
The Southern Illinois University Edwardsville Police Department made one impaired driving arrest and issued 18 citations during its 2022 Fourth of July “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” safety campaign.
The citations were issued regarding the following offenses: five speeding violations, three disregards of a stop sign, two invalid registration, three uninsured, two disregards of the traffic control device, two improper/driving wrong way and one driving on a suspended license.
The SIUE Police Department joined forces with more than 200 state and local law enforcement agencies to get drunk and drugged drivers off the roads, encourage seat belt use and enforce speeding and other traffic laws. The effort featured high-visibility enforcement combined with a variety of outreach activities, including the Illinois Department of Transportation’s new media campaign: “It’s Not a Game.”
The enforcement period was funded by federal traffic safety funds administered by IDOT as part of the statewide “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” and “Click It or Ticket” programs.
