SIUE’s New Chancellor, James T. Minor, Launches Engagement Sessions
Southern Illinois University Edwardsville’s campus was abuzz this week with the arrival of new Chancellor James T. Minor, PhD.
Minor launched a listening tour that allowed him to connect with numerous faculty, staff and students, as he traveled across the Edwardsville campus to build excitement for the University’s collective advancement.
“The voice and commitment of our entire campus community will shape our bold vision and the path we chart forward,” Minor shared. “During the interview process, and especially now that I’ve arrived on campus, the people at this rising institution stand out most. My top priority is to get out of our administrative building and talk to various campus constituents in order to listen and learn about both challenges and opportunities.”
“I have great ambition for this institution,” he added. “I’m asking pointed questions regarding how we make improvements with respect to student success, how we support and enhance faculty excellence, and how we engage donors and community partners. This is a special season for SIUE.”
Students were eager for the opportunity to meet Minor and found great inspiration in their new leader as he demonstrated genuine excitement and interest for their development and success.
“He’s a breath of fresh air, and is exactly who we need to help us progress to a better and new SIUE,” shared junior Bryan Robinson, of Belleville. “The way he asks questions about our experiences makes me feel that he truly cares about our future.”
“His presence will bring everyone on this campus closer,” added graduate student Amber Bell, of St. Louis. “To walk into the Morris University Center today and see him meeting students, asking them questions and wanting to hear our voice is amazing.”
“Dr. Minor is big into leadership and diversity work, so I’m excited to see what he brings to campus,” added sophomore Sharnae Collins, of Murphysboro. “He fits the position perfectly.”
“Dr. Minor is great,” shared sophomore Caitlin Doody, of Murphysboro. “He took the time to get to know each of us as we lined up to meet him, so that was really nice.”
This week, Minor toured the School of Engineering as well as safety and facilities units. He also met with the Staff and Faculty Senates. Next week, he will visit the SIUE East St. Louis Center and the SIU School of Dental Medicine in Alton.
