SIUE Celebrates National School Counseling Week
The Southern Illinois University Edwardsville Office of Admissions celebrated National School Counseling Week (February 7-11, 2022) by sending posters to a variety of regional schools and their counselors. The American School Counselor Association (ASCA) annually sponsors the event each February to highlight the tremendous impact school counselors can have in helping students achieve school success and plan for a career.
“School counselors play an incredibly important role in our recruitment of new students, and our partnerships with them are invaluable,” said Todd Burrell, SIUE director of undergraduate admissions. “We are grateful for the support of all school counselors and their continued efforts of assisting students who are considering SIUE, especially during these challenging times.”
Burrell noted that SIUE’s overall enrollment grew 1.2% for fall 2021, including a 28% growth (438 students) in the first-year class. In the first year of a test optional environment, the entering class reflected an average high school GPA of 3.5, which has been the class average for each of the past four years.
“School counselors are an essential part of why students select certain institutions and are therefore critical to SIUE’s enrollment efforts,” Burrell said.
“We truly appreciate and celebrate the perseverance of all school counselors and their continued support of students as they consider SIUE for their collegiate home.”
