IL SBDC, HUBZone and Government Contracting Webinar April 16
The Illinois Small Business Development Center (SBDC)/Procurement Technical Assistance Centers (PTAC) network is hosting an informational workshop from 9 a.m.-3:15 p.m. Tuesday, April 16 to promote, educate and provide resources to small businesses eligible to participate in the Small Business Administration’s (SBA) Historically Underutilized Business Zone (HUBZone) program.
In addition to the HUBZone seminar, the SBDC network is collaborating with the Greater East St. Louis Business Development Association to offer local resources on how businesses can participate in government contracting.
The HUBZone program helps small businesses in urban and rural communities gain preferential access to federal procurement opportunities. These preferences go to small businesses that obtain HUBZone certification in part by employing staff who live in a HUBZone. The company must also maintain a “principal office” in one of these specially designated areas.
Benefits for HUBZone eligible small businesses include competitive and sole source federal contracts set aside exclusively for HUBZone firms, and a 10 percent price evaluation preference in full and open contract competitions, as well as subcontracting opportunities.
The conference will provide an overview of the HUBZone program along with a discussion of program eligibility and benefits. Veteran, minority and women owned business certifications will also be explained. Businesses will have the chance to ask questions of a panel of federal contracting officers, SBA representatives, and subject matter experts.
