Arts & Issues and SIUE Xfest Present Sidra Bell Dance New York
Provocative dance, outrageous glamour and elaborate cinematic performances will converge on stage when the Sidra Bell Dance New York Company comes to Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.
Arts & Issues and SIUE Xfest will present the uniquely disarming work of artistic director Sidra Bell at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 15 in Dunham Hall Theater.
“Sidra is a company that emphasizes exploration of movement and combines that with aspects of theater, music and fashion to create worlds on stage that speak to the human condition and also brings contemporary dance to a broader audience,” said Bell. “I’m attracted to work that I can relate to, and work that doesn’t preach to me. I take my ego out of my work and let the audience have an experience with it.”
Sidra Bell Dance New York is rapidly gaining an international reputation for work that reveals aspects of the human condition through a female lens. She has received many international commissions and has produced more than 100 new works seen throughout the U.S. and around the world.
“We’re very lucky to have a dance company of this caliber perform at SIUE as part of SIUE’s Xfest,” said Grant Andree, director of Arts & Issues. “Sidra Bell herself is an award-winning, internationally recognized choreographer and will be on campus teaching master classes.”
General admission is $18 for adults, SIUE staff, faculty, retirees, alumni and seniors 65 and older; and $15 for students of any school. Tickets can be purchased at artsandissues.com, by phone at 1-866-698-4253 or at the Morris University Center (MUC) Welcome Desk.
