SIUE Alumna Megan Banks Recognized Among STL Biz Journal’s 30 Under 30
The St. Louis Business Journal has recognized Southern Illinois University Edwardsville alumna Megan Banks as among the region’s next generation of high-level decision makers with a spot in its competitive 30 Under 30 Class of 2017. The acknowledgement also applauds her continuous commitment to the betterment of society.
Banks is an assistant project manager at S. M. Wilson & Co., a St. Louis-based commercial construction firm. A native of Florissant, Mo., she achieved a bachelor’s in construction management from the SIUE School of Engineering (SOE) in 2013.
“I was always taught that there is no point in doing something if you don’t give it your all, 100 percent of the time,” Banks said. “I will continue to work hard, build and do my part in the community.”
After securing an internship with S. M. Wilson after an SOE networking event, she has climbed the company ranks with a proven drive and work ethic. In her current role, Banks is charged with ensuring projects are completed safely, on time and with approved budgets.
“It is extremely exciting to watch a building progress from paper to reality,” she said. “There are so many moving parts involved in the building process, and I am constantly learning. It is challenging and stressful, but exciting.
“In my position, I develop and maintain effective relationships with all parties involved with a project, maintain and communicate accurate financial details of the project, maintain accurate documentation and provide support and direction for the entire project team.”
Banks says she always wanted to pursue a career in engineering, and credits the faculty in the SOE’s construction management program for their productive support of her success.
“I always try to recognize those who have helped me reach this point,” Banks explained. “SIUE faculty members Mark Grinter, PLS, Chris Gordon, PhD, Anne Werner, PhD, were sincere educators who honestly cared. They put in extra time and wanted me to succeed.”
Banks plans to continue to progress in her career with plans to own a development and investment company in 10 years’ time.
