SIUE Alumni Honored with Emerson Excellence in Teaching Awards
Eighteen SIUE alumni were among 100 St. Louis area educators who received high praise for their contributions and dedication to the teaching profession and received the 2016 Emerson Excellence in Teaching Awards.
SIUE alumni included graduates of the SIUE School of Education, Health and Human Behavior, College of Arts and Sciences, and Graduate School.
- Kimberly Bossler achieved both a bachelor’s in elementary education and psychology in 2003, and a master’s in education special education in 2007.
- Michael Day earned a master’s in historical studies in 2001.
- Vicki Fhurhop earned a bachelor’s in business administration/personnel administration in 1994, and a master’s in educational administration in 2007.
- Judy Glaeser achieved a bachelor’s in elementary education in 1989.
- Christopher Helling completed a bachelor’s and master’s in education-special education in 2006 and 2013, respectively.
- James Hesse achieved a master’s in education-instructional technology in 2009 and a master’s in education-educational administration in 2014.
- Renee Koprivica earned a bachelor’s in education-special education/learning disability in 1992 and a master’s in education-secondary education/reading in 2003.
- Sharon Logan completed a master’s in elementary education in 2004.
- Nicole Marquardt completed a master’s in elementary education in 2003.
- Amanda Mellenthin earned a master’s in educational administration in 2015.
- Dana Mueller achieved a bachelor’s in early childhood education in 2006.
- Janis Northway completed a bachelor’s in elementary education in 1989.
- Elaine Rockemann earned a bachelor’s and master’s in elementary education in 1984 and 1999, respectively.
- Lori Ruebhausen achieved a bachelor’s and master’s in music education in 1982 and 1996, respectively.
- Rebecca Stanley-Deist earned a master’s in elementary education in 1998 and an education specialist degree in education administration in 2007.
- Johnna Wells completed a master’s in education-kinesiology in 1999.
- Luke Wessel earned a bachelor’s in education-kinesiology in 2005.
- Audrey Woods achieved a bachelor’s in elementary education in 1984.
“Emerson is proud to honor the most dedicated educators in the St. Louis area who are striving to create bright futures for all of their students,” said Patrick J. Sly, Emerson executive vice president. “We are delighted to support these smart, talented men and women who are an inspiration both inside and outside the classroom.”
Recipients were selected by their school’s administration and were presented their awards in November. They now have the opportunity to apply for a Gold Star Grant from Emerson, to be presented in spring 2017.
