SIUE Wrestling Ranks Among Top All-Academic Teams Nationwide
The SIUE Wrestling team, led by head coach Jeremy Spates, ranks 14th on the National Wrestling Coaches Association’s (NWCA) annual listing of All-Academic teams.
The team grade-point average was determined using a system that includes 12 student-athletes from each program. Ten of those wrestlers were entries in the NCAA tournament conference qualifier.
Harvard led the nation with a 3.412 grade point average. SIUE, which had a GPA of 3.202, joined fellow Southern Conference teams Gardner-Webb, Chattanooga and Appalachian State among the top 30.
"The NWCA All-Academic Team is one of the best acknowledgements that we can give to our coaches and athletes at the end of a physically grueling season," said NWCA Executive Director Mike Moyer. "The NWCA Board of Directors and staff look forward to watching these student-athletes continue their success at the collegiate level and eventually as the leaders of the future once they earn their college degrees."
