SIUE School of Business Alumni Forum Shares Wisdom and Advice
Southern Illinois University Edwardsville chapter of the Association of Information Technology Professionals (AITP) hosted an open forum Tuesday, April 19 that featured a panel of successful alumni.
Thirteen graduates of the SIUE School of Business’s computer management and information systems program, including several former AITP officers, offered current students a wealth of advice ranging from internship to networking.
“Definitely take advantage of what the School has to offer,” said James Nippert, BS’14, in reference to career fairs and mock interviews. “I used to seek out professors I didn’t know, just to have them interview me to make sure I was comfortable and could hold a conversation.”
Working to improve skills in the ever-changing world of information technology (IT) was also an important theme during the forum.
“Whatever you do, find something that interests you and drives you,” added Josh Borwey, BS’15. “For me, hacking video games gave me useful experience.”
AITP is the professional association comprised of career minded individuals who seek to expand their potential. AITP offers opportunities for IT leadership and education through industry and academic partnerships. The SIUE chapter of AITP is open to all SIUE students. It’s main focus in on computer management and information systems, computer science and other School of Business majors.
