Lovejoy Library Invites Digital Visitors to Tag Million Man March Photos
Thursday, Oct. 16 will mark the 20th anniversary of the Million Man March. On that day in 1995, African American men from across the U.S. marched to Washington as a demonstration of unity.
A digital exhibition of materials from the Eugene B. Redmond Collection at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville’s Lovejoy Library recounts the story of the Million Man March and the 1998 book about the March by Redmond and his collaborators. The exhibition is accompanied by a digital collection of the complete set of 907 related photographs in the Redmond Collection.
To mark the 20th anniversary, SIUE Library and Information Services invites you to tag yourself or someone you know in a photo of the Million Man March or a related event. The digital collection includes more than 200 photographs of the March itself. There are also photographs of pre-March rallies in East St. Louis and on the SIUE campus, and photos of 1997 anniversary events.
Tagging will be open for the months of October and November. Visit the collection online to share what you know about these historic photos.
