Latin American Film Festival Continues at SIUE
The SIUE Latin American Film Festival continues through October 28. In Spanish with English subtitles, recent award-winning films will interest a wide audience. The public is invited to attend these free films at Woodland Hall:
- Mr. Kaplan will be shown Wednesday, Oct. 7 and Friday, Oct. 16 at 6 p.m. Jacob Kaplan fled Europe for South America because of World War II. Now 76 years old, he recruits a former police officer to investigative an elderly German, whom he suspects is a runaway Nazi.
- Simon Bolivar (who led Venezuela, Colombia, Panama, Peru and Ecuador toward independence) is the subject of El Libertador (The Liberator), a spectacular epic with breath-taking landscapes shown Wednesday, Oct. 14 at 6 p.m.
- 7 Cajas (7 Boxes) will be shown Wednesday, Oct. 21 at 6 p.m. It is the story of a Paraguayan delivery boy who is offered an easy job that proves to be complicated.
- Infancia Clandestina (Clandestine Childhood) is an Argentinian story of militancy, undercover life and love set in the late 1970s. It will be shown Wednesday, Oct. 28 at 6 p.m.
The festival is part of a Spanish Film Club series made possible with the support of Pragda, the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports of Spain, and SPAIN arts & culture. SIUE’s Department of Foreign Languages and Literature host the festival in collaboration with the College of Arts and Sciences, SIUE Housing, and the Office of Institutional Diversity and Inclusion.
